About The Zookeeper
Joel Fergie also known as ʻThe Zookeeperʼ is an Australian artist whose large scale artworks span from inner city urban laneways to remote regional communities throughout Central Australia.
Growing up in the Northern Territory, The Zookeeper developed a deep fascination with the Australian Outback. This passion for nature inspired him to bring his vision to life on a monumental scale, leading to the creation of some of Australia’s most iconic murals across the outback.
His journey into remote large-scale art began a decade ago, sparking a love for massive remote canvases, that has since resulted in countless large-scale murals. These include the striking Point Cartwright water tower overlooking Mooloolaba and the award winning Thallon silos, Monto Silos and Sea Lake Silos.
While mural art continues to be a cornerstone of The Zookeeper's creative practice, he has recently embraced a more intimate approach to his artistry. Replacing his spray can for a paintbrush, he’s bringing his detailed visions to life on canvas in his Sunshine Coast Hinterland Studio.
